What You Need to Do With Your Leaky Kitchen Faucets

If you have a leaky faucet or two in your home, it can be difficult to know where to start. At Dutton Plumbing, we’ve put together some top tips on how to repair one. Alternatively, you can get in touch with us and arrange for a skilled and experienced plumber to fix your leaky faucet.

What Tools Will I Need?

There are a few essential tools that you’ll need when it comes to fixing your faucet such as an adjustable wrench, a C-wrench, a Phillips or flat-head screwdriver (depending on the type of screws), WD-40 and replacement washers and O-rings.

What Steps Do I Take?

  • First of all, be sure to avoid making a mess ensuring sure your water supply is turned off. Otherwise, you can cause an almighty mess! You’ll then want to remove any decorative parts such as the handles. All you need to do is simply pry them with a flat-head screwdriver and they should pop off. of that. Then, unscrew the handle and gently remove it with your flat-head. WD-40 can help with the removal.
  • Next, use the wrench to loosen what’s known as the packing nut. From there, you will then see the stem which should also be removed. This should pop off, otherwise, you may need to gently pry or unscrew.
  • Finally, inspect the O-ring and washer which is located inside the valve seat (these are more than likely the cause of your leak). Remove and replace if needed.
