People use the terms interchangeably, but they are not the same job. Knowing which one your house needs is the difference between a short visit and an unnecessary invoice.
Drain clearing removes the blockage.
A cable or auger goes into the line, breaks through whatever is stopping the water, and pulls it out. This is what the large majority of calls actually need. Something specific is in the way, it comes out, and the drain works again.
Drain cleaning scours the pipe itself.
Cleaning means removing the layer of grease, scale, and buildup coating the inside walls of the line, usually with hydro jetting. It is not aimed at one blockage. It restores the pipe to its original diameter, which is a different goal entirely.
Which one you need depends on the pattern.
A drain that clogged once wants clearing. A drain that has clogged three times in a year wants cleaning, because the clearing keeps working and the line keeps closing back up. Kitchen lines in older homes are the usual candidates, since decades of grease narrow the pipe until almost anything catches.
We Look Before We Recommend
A cable tells you something was in the way. A camera tells you what, where, and whether it is coming back. When a clog does not behave like a simple one, we run the line, and you watch the screen with us. Nobody should be asked to approve a sewer repair on the strength of a description.
No Chemicals Down Your Pipes
Store-bought drain chemicals generate heat against the pipe wall and tend to bore a narrow channel through a clog rather than removing it, which is why the problem returns in a few weeks. We clear mechanically, and when a line needs ongoing help, we use Bio-Clean, an enzyme treatment that works on the buildup without working on the pipe.
