Plumbing Troubleshooting: Shower Pressure

Fixing Shower Pressure

Fixing Shower PressureSometimes, stepping into a hot shower can be the most wonderful thing in the world. When you turn on the faucet, and instead of receiving invigorating rainfall, you find a trickle that wouldn’t satisfy a mouse, it is less wonderful. In a few cases, some trusty DIY-ers may be able to handle the required plumbing troubleshooting on their own. At Dutton Plumbing, our plumbers are experienced and well-trained to handle these troubleshooting situations. If your sleuthing is proving ineffective, or you’d rather just leave it to the experts, call us to handle your pressure issues.

Check Your Shower Head

One of the most common culprits of low pressure in the shower is the shower head. Areas with hard water can see a buildup of mineral deposits throughout plumbing fixtures, including the shower head. To determine if this is the problem, you can simply remove the fixture and turn on the water. If the water flows freely, then the shower head is usually to blame. Simply soaking the fixture in vinegar can dissolve the mineral deposits so the head can work and look as good as new. If that is not effective, further plumbing troubleshooting or a new shower head may be in order.

Complete Pressure Reduction Throughout the Home

Before you buy a new showerhead, check the pressure throughout your home. If the flow of water seems to be as decreased in all areas of the house, the municipality may have the problem. If a broken water main is spewing water a few blocks down the street, your water pressure will suffer. Contact a neighbor to see if your house is the only one affected, and if not, contact your local water authority.

Low pressure throughout the home can also indicate a leak. If the leak is causing loss of pressure, there is typically a significant amount of water being lost. In this situation, plumbing troubleshooting can be a difficult task that may be best left to the professionals. Contact our Simi Valley Region plumbing experts at Dutton Plumbing to evaluate your low pressure issues today.
